Penn State came out hard against Ohio State and scored first at the 28:28 mark of the first period with a goal by Julie Tice, assisted by Molly Ford. The Buck eyes would score their own goal eight minutes later by Celeste Cian frani. Women's Lacrosse Penn State 16 Ohio State 5 Delaware 15 Penn State 7 Ohio State goal, the Lions went on to dominate the period with five goals in a row. B.J. In all, Penn State had 10 players post goals including Lucey with three and Webb, Tice, Christine Kenney and Kate Affonsa each adding two scores. Penn State keeper Megan Ames came up with 15 saves on 20 shots to help in the win. "We just wanted to go out and work well as a team against Ohio State," Affonsa said. "Everything seemed to fall into place for us on Saturday. We wanted to help each other out and be there for each other on the field. For me, it was a great feeling to know the team was out there working together." Edwards, the senior midfielder for the Blue Hens, went on a tear by scoring five goals in the half to add to the two she scored in the first period. She single-handedly dis mantled the Penn State defense to put Delaware ahead for good. "In the first half we tried to contain her (Edwards)," Lucey said. "In the second half we kind of lost focus of her and she took it to us. She is a quick, fast girl. We definitely did n't do enough to contain her." Tice and Kenney would each score, but simply fell short in the 15-7 loss. The loss is the fifth in five attempts versus top 10 ranked opponents this season. In five games, the Lions have been outscored 84-37 and only surpassed 10 goals in one of the games, an 18-11 shortfall to James Madison on March 11. Although Penn State is below the .500 mark at this point in the season for the first time since 1998, the Lions look at the losses against the tough opponents as a learning experience for the future. "The only way you'll get better as a team is to play the elite teams in the country." Lucey said. "We've taken something differ ent away from each game and we're slowly coming together as a team."
