— The Daily Collegian Friday, Aug. 29, 1997 Laundry - Continued from Page 1. The new cards are not the only change in the laundry rooms, though. "The vendors have supplied new washers and dryers," Fotis said. "The dryer venting system has also been improved." Some students have noticed the new improvements in laundry rooms "They needed a real improve ment over the previous machines," Eric Hebble (senior-meteorology) said. "The old tickets were so easy to lose. I think it's a brilliant idea." The computer chip in the laun dry card is an involved and compli cated test program for a new ID card next year, Fotis said. "If everything works out, stu dents could then carry around one card that would do everything," Fotis said. Michael Scotten (freshman -meteorology) folds his laundry in a Hamilton Hall laundry room yesterday. A new laundry system was installed into all University dorms over the summer in order to be used beginning this semester. • Collegian Photo/Christa Rimonneau Covener - Continued from Page 1. "The housing law should be blind to student status," he said. "We should encourage people to be allowed to live wherever they can afford to." Covener said he will also fight for the repeal of the business priv ilege tax and the removal of the East College Heights traffic diverters. "The business tax will stunt growth downtown," he said. "We can make up that money by elimi nating all the wasteful spending. We spent $60,000 to put in the diverters and now another $lOO,OOO to take them apart and put up new ones. The diverters are unnecessary." He said he plans to release a full platform statement Monday. Covener's ticket finished sev enth out of the nine running for USG president and vice-president last spring. Covener and running mate Jeremy Nightingale (junior computer engineering) were best remembered for distributing 100 free beer funnels in April to stu dents in a campaign stunt. Clinic Continued from Page 1. "People have wanted to pray," she said. "We hope God hears our prayers." The march will be a peaceful prayer walk, Rogacs said, but she added she would not be surprised if pro-choice activists would make an appearance. "We're not even concerned about that," she said. "Everybody has their First Amendment rights." Penn State Pro-Choice co-direc tor Mike Dancs said yesterday he was not aware of the planned protest and has not yet decided whether the group will appear at the walk. Although his organization was not active during the summer, Dancs said he knew controversy has been blossoming. "I knew that the clinic was going to be opened," Dancs said. "I fig ured they (pro-life activists) might try to attempt something like this." Controversy has surrounded State College Medical Services since the clinic was proposed. In early July, HFL Corp., a local real-estate agency, canceled its lease with Friendly Corp., manager of State College Medical Services.- Friendly Corp. filed a suit against HFL Corp., protesting the eviction, but a hearing granted the clinic could stay on the premises until the eviction hearing takes place. • 4. ;. 5;14,53;5:16:11:4•Vilaal:;!Zv,*,:::::::::;•! 4,• ::::.::: - .. , ri.p . f .: f 5: ::. •, ..; •f;1::::. -1::. •,::: At the Days Inn Penn State :::. ..7.:.7. •c• ~ .....: I STUDENT ,:.. .7..:.. .7., .7. :.,.. -P., . , • v.l g : Elg -T- n -, ) e•, ~. • f.t JL LI-fd 0., ~ 0....
