From there, the next step in Dickerson's career was obvious. Temple offered him the chance he was waiting for, and he couldn't turn down the oppurtunity. "I had to go where my heart was, and my heart wanted to become a head coach," Dickerson said. "I had to take that step." That next step is a steep one. The Owls were 1-10 last year and failed to win a game against any other Big East team. REDS 6, ROCKIES 2 CINCINNATI (AP) The Colorado Rockies lost their franchise-record eighth straight game as the Cincin nati Reds rode Tim Pugh's complete game and Joe Oliver's three-run homer to a 6-2 victory. Jim Williams, the defensive line coach at Penn State and a former colleague of Dickerson's, has con fidence in Dickerson's abilities. "He's a very astute man and very bright," Williams said. Williams also respects Dicker son's strength as a person. He recalled an incident in which Dickerson was involved in a serious car accident. After fighting through his injuries and returning to Penn State, Dickerson was the victim of a prank by his fellow coaches. Pugh (7-10) limited the Rockies' struggling lineup to nine singles three by Dante Bichette before Vinny Cashlla hit a two-run homer with two out in the ninth. Pugh didn't walk a batter until the ninth, and struck out six. Every starter had at least one hit as the Reds went ahead 6-0 against Willie Blair (4-8), who gave up 11 hits and three walks in 4 2-3 innings. Kevin Mitchell's two-run triple started a three-run third, and Oliver hit his 10th homer in the fifth.
