18—The Daily Collegian Friday. Oct. 10, 1986 Lady harriers for weekend By MARK WOGEN RICH Collegian Sports Writer While the runners of the women's cross country team are busy taking academic midterms, they are also gearing up for another kind of test as they head to Lehigh University for the Paul Short Classic. Tomorrow's race is, as Head Coach Teri Jordan calls it, a preview of the NCAA Region II and East Coast Ath letic Conference Championships to be run on the same track in November. "It (the race) is like a midterm in that it shows us how we are perform ing up to this point and also gives us some indication of how much work we still have to do to get ready for Finals ( the Noverriber NCAA Championships in Tucson, Ariz.)," she said. The 21-team meet is a key point in the season for the Lady Lions because they will meet top ECAC competition such as Yale, Villanova and Toron to on the Region II track. "This meet has always been impor tant to us because it gives us a good idea of what kind of competition we will have at Regionals, and shows us what we will have to do in order to win (the Region H title)," Jordan said. "It will be interesting to see how we stack up against them right now." At the present time, Jordan's team stacks up quite nicely against the Wildcats. In the National Coaches' Poll, the Lady Lions are ranked No. 15, while Villanova is one slot behind at 16th. Jordan, however, is wary of rankings this early. "It's nice to be ranked that high," the coach said. "But it may be a little too early to get a real idea of who should be ranked where. The rank ings should be a little clearer after the (Oct. 18) Burger King Classic (in Wisconsin)." In preparing for Villanova and the rest of the competition, Jordan's squad is still working hard. "We cut back a little bit to give the girls a chance to rest and study," said Jordan. "But basically we are still working as hard as we have been." Even with all the work and study ing, Jordan says the team is still pumped for the meet. raw 7— - Sup, a - Re i sitilar Lif ai r Ss ° k krt ONE FREE . 1 -Y-1). 10131/86 I Peon 1 2: - 130 , 1 a:Re4ular I o rpse,,e ~,t, 7008, TIME TO PUT THE "CAT" OUT ....BEARCAT THAT IS.
