Scuba diving has given many the opportunity to explore this dark world. However, before embarking safely on such an expedition, one must first be certified in basic scuba. Last weekend a basic scuba class from Nittany Divers completed the final requirement of its course: an open water dive at Willows Springs Diving Club in Richland. The course was conducted under the auspices of National Association of Underwater Instructors (NAUI) members Bill 'Rudy' Richardson, Maryann and King Farrington. All pool sessions were preceeded by classroom lectures. The lectures cov ered such topics 'as decompression tables, accident procedures and haz ardous marine life. On Saturday morning, clas mem bers packed their gear and headed for an overnight stay at Willows Springs. On the left, assistant instructor Maryann Farrington leaves the wa ter after student divers complete their first dive. At top, the diving group prepares to wreck dive on the sunken ship "Quest". At right, Jim Lagrua (senior-SCBS) assists Shari Howard (junior-microbiology) with gear while Diane Runge (junior- CMDIS) adjusts equipment. The Daily Collegian Wednesday, April 11, 1984
