Central

Collegian Staff Writer
An international boycott of the El
Salvadoran government led by the
United States would mean a Marxist-
Leninist revolution in that Central
American country, a former U.S.

the University of Illinois, said in an
interview with The Daily Collegian,
the downfall of the present Salvado

Student missing
University Police Services reported Friday that a University student has
been missing since April 16.
Richard Tadrzynski, 21, 504 Beaver Hall, was reported missing by a
University employee who was contacted by his family. Police described
Tadrzynski (6th-recreation and parks) as caucasian, fair complexion, 5 feet 8
inches tall, and 150 pounds.
He has short, straight black hair, a moustache and brown eyes.
He also wears silver wire-rimmed, tinted glasses.
Police said he was probably wearing a red nylon Phillies jacket, blue jeans,
black army boots and carrying a blue hiking back pack and sleeping bag.
Tadrzynski was last seen at the Hand-in-Hand Festival at the White Building,
police said. Tadrzynski's vehicle has been found at the University's Stone
Valley Recreational Center where he was believed to be hiking, police said.

America, "The policy of lassiez-faire
(non-intervention) does not lead to
liberal democracy." He added later
that one should not be enthusiastic to
see a group not liberally democratic
take power.
Solaun said self-determination in
Central America is not possible be
cause the electoral process is not well
established.
"So what you ultimately get is a
government that is not responsible to
the will Of the people," he said.
Although the Marxist-Leninist na
ture of the Sandinista National Liber
ation Front (FSLN) was obvious
when the decision to boycott the So

forseen that the FSLN would quickly
take power in Nicaragua, Solaun

"Whether you have revolution or
not is based on a complex set of
factors," he said.
Soluan described the situations
both in Nicaragua and in El Salvador
as unpleasant and tragic. The deci
sion by the Carter administration to
cut off aid to Somoza was based solely
on human rights violations by the
Nicaraguan National Guard, he said.
"The policy was to dissociate our
selves from dictatorships that were
violating human rights," he said.
Previously, the policy was "interfer
ing without intervention," he said.
However, U.S. foreign policy to
ward El Salvador should be based on
the lesser of the two evils: continued
intervention or lassiez-faire policy
followed by yet another Marxist-Le
ninist revolution in Central America,
he said.
The former ambassador will ad
dress the El Salvadoran issue tonight
at 8 in 101 Chambers. His presenta
tion is being sponsored by the Latin
American Studies Society and the
College of The Liberal Arts.

"On your mark, get set, eat!" cried
co-chairman Alan Cohen to officially
start yesterday's preliminary ham
burger eating contest, part of this
year's Sy Barash Regatta.
Eight entrants participated in an
attempt to top the current world
record 20 3 / 4 hamburgers consumed
in 30 minutes, according to the Gui
ness Book of World Records.
Yesterday's competition was held
in two 30-minute rounds with chair
man of the event Dave Pollack acting
as official time keeper. Each contes
tant had a judge and timer with him
during the event, sponsored by Beta
Sigma Beta fraternity, Phi Mu sorori-
ty and McDonald's.
John Peper took first place during
the first round after consuming 8 1 / 2
Quarter-Pounders.
Peper said - he hoped to eat more,
but all the excitement and people
made the event really nerve-racking.
Gary Burbacker who ate 4 1 / 2 burg
ers and David Lindley who ate 6 1 / 2
also participated in the round.
The crowd favorite Mark Petruc
celli competed during the second
round. "We are a force to be reckoned
with," claimed his judge Ken Caplin.
Unfortunately after an amazing start
of finishing six burgers in the first
five minutes, .Petruccelli had to quit
due to nausea.
"I've seen a lot of nausea, but that's
