This past weekend was an exception though, as the wom en's golf team weathered pouring 'rain for three straight days in the Lady Northern Invitational at Ohio State. The Lady Lions battled back from 21st place after a disappointing open ing round on Friday, to a respectable P 49 team score and a seventh place finish in the 24-team field. • "We had everything working against us (on Friday)," Coach Mary Kennedy said. "It was the first tour- Equestrian ,The Penn State Equestrian Team leaped to third place in a field of 16 schools at Briarwood Farms in Old wick, N.J. this past weekend. Pirate starter Rick Rhoden, 11-14, fell behind 1- 0 in the second inning when Gary Rajsich led off with a triple and scored on Ron Hodges' ground out. The Pirates tied it 1-1 in the fifth on Tony Pena's 11th homer. New York bunched together four singles and a wild pitch to score twice in the fifth. With one out, Hubie Brooks and Brian Giles singled. Holman drove in Brooks with a single but Giles was thrown out at third by left fielder Mike Easier. Mike Howard's single moved Holman to third and he scored on Rhoden's wild pitch to give the Mets a 3-1 lead. The Mets got their final run in the seventh on Howard's RBI single. Before the game, the Mets honored Pirate slugger Willie Stargell, who will retire at the end of the season.
