—The Daily Collegian Friday, Dec. 12, 1980 Professor earns legal privilege Entitled to argue legal cases before the Supreme Court By JACKIE MARTINO Daily Collegian Stqff Writer Barry Myers, associate professor in the College of Business Ad ministration, recently became a member of the select group of at torneys permitted to argue cases before the U.S. Supreme Court. "It's a real experience to argue a case there," Myers said. "The Supreme Court is different in that it's an academic exercise." To be entitled to argue cases before the Supreme Court, an at torney must be in practice for four or more years. Then he must take an ex am and file an application for admit tance to the highest court in the state they practice in. Once admitted to the highest court in the state, he needs recommenda tions from two attorneys already practicing before the Supreme Court. Lastly, the attorney must be, in good standing and have all of his creden tials in order, Myers said. The fact that many attorneys do not know how to apply for admission to the Supreme Court is a major reason why the group is so small, Myers said. Also, many attorneys many at torneys do not apply for practical reasons, because they are unlikely to. . Myers, who, calls himself a moderate to liberal democrat, said chances are good that several of the court's liberal justices will retire dur ing the next four years. He further speculated that if Ronald Reagan, as president, fills, the vacant positions With conservative justices, the court might take a "conservative bent," but added, "I .guess you always have to remain optimistic." The question of howMyers' associate professorship will combine with his new status was emphatically answered by Myers himself: "First and foremost, I'm an associate professor." Myers received his Bachelor of Science degree in business and economics from the University, and his law degree from Boston Universi ty. The sale is sponsored by the Association of Student Activities and is usually held the week before Christmas break. • The Art Print sale benefited students in two way's, said John McCauley, assis tant director of the Student Activities Office. "First, the sale provides students with a chance to buy nice Christmas presents at a reasonable price," McCauley said, "and second, we do it as a sort of art ap preciation thing "Students should be subjected to some of the great masters' works Renoir, Van Gogh, Wyeth. They should be able to see a da Vinci other than the Mona Lisa before they leave this place." The sale is run by Transatlantic Galleries, a print-supply company based in New York City. The company's role in the sale is to deliver the prints to the universities, publicize the sale and hire students to work for the sale, said Ken Mayberry, a representative of Transatlantic. It was incorrectly reported in the Col legian Notes yesterday that Bob Sobol's concert at the HUB was to be a tribute to John Lennon. Sobol used some Lennon songs, but the performance was not a tribute. It was incorrectly reported in yester day's Daily Collegian that represen 2 MALE ROOMMATES needed to share 2 bedroom apartment.
