Then s.again, Lieberman is not just any 1 'wrestler. J’ ! “Things weren’t clicking well in the T bout,” hie, said. "My shots weren’t timed n right and I wasn’t very strong.” 11 ' Previously, Lieberman had registered !’ eight falls in his 10 matches this year, " and 35 in his 80 career bouts, but he was unable to pin the Lions’ Sam Sallitt in the 190-pound match « Still, it was the 37th consecutive vic tory for the returning 177-pound national champion. Jpdging by Lieberman’s other credentials, he appears un beatable. The USWF then named Lieberman the Champion of Champions. While these statistics are impressive, they have not convinced Lehigh’s head coach Thad Turner that Mark is invincible. “He’s not unbeatable, nobody is,” Turner said. “I’ve seen too many things happen in wrestling to believe that.” Lieberman himself is a little bit wary of the competition this year. “It’s a well-balanced weight class (177), and there are six or eight tough wrestlers, including (State’s) Dan Pfautz,” Lieberman said •••■“*— \p \ (Closed Mondays except (Of banquets) ROUTE 322 east qe boalssurg 466-627 t Winless grapplers fall to Lehigh ByWILLPAKUTKA Daily Collegian Sports Writer Rec Hall had a different air about it Saturday night. After watching that night’s wrestling match between Penn State and Lehigh, one would come away with the impression that a good portion of the 1,939 in attendance were from Lehigh. But the Lehigh'fans weren’t the only ones who made themselves at home in Rec Hall that night. The feeling went all the way to the mat where Engineer coach Thad Turner sent 10 wrestlers out with a swift smack on the rear and had seven return with victories. The result was a 31-9 Lehigh victory. ‘‘We knew it was going to be tough,” Lion coach Rich Lorenzo said after the match. “I’m never pleased when we lose but we were improving. We lack some basic fundamentals and it takes a while to improve; it doesn’t come overnight.” The Lions have wrestled some fine teams this season but Lehigh was just about the best. They beat Cal Poly 31-20 and have come out on top in matches with several other mat powers. “They had some guys who could go all the way this Sunbeam KASC4L electric ruzcr hr Tvftnesi IUUAub..- The electric razor made just for women . . . Burley was just too quick, too strong and too much for Jim Earl to handle Saturday night. The result was a 19-4 super-superior decision for Burley. “He’s outstanding,” Lorenzo said of Burley. “He just flows out there. He’s an effortless wrestler and he beat a good man in Jim Earl.” Prior to the 134-pound match, two of the top freshmen 126-pounders in the nation went at it but the Lions came out on the short end as Lehigh’s Pete Schuyler proved to be too much for Bob Bury. Bury got taken down first in the match and just couldn’t get away from Schuyler in that period. The final score read 10-4, Schuyler’s favor. “If you had to pick a weak spot in Bury’s wrestling it’s that he has to work on take downs,” Lorenzo said. “He’s most vulnerable on his feet and that’s where the match starts.” One of the Lions’ bright spots came in the 142-pound Displays instant readout of: • HOURS • MINUTES • SECONDS • MONTH • DATE • DAY LADIES 6-FUNCTION LCD WATCH She'll think of you all the time . . .
