HARRISBURG (AP) House Speaker K. Leroy Irvis
►*said yesterday he is cracking down on state legislators’
telephone credit card privileges because the cards
apparently have been used in some instances for per
sonal calls.
C Irvis’ decision to temporarily recall the 25 cards was
£an unusual move, since the credit cards fall under the

“Scarcelli may not be happy about us recalling the
cards, since technically it’s not the responsibility of the
Speaker’s office to do this,” Thomas Smith, an aide to
Irvis, said.
Irvis said he is recalling the cards and will reissue

some legislators were building up large monthly phone
bills as a result of personal calls apparently being made
with the credit cards.

Two apartments on
Beaver burglarized
• Two apartments at 340 E. Beaver
Ave. were robbed Wednesday
morning, State College police said.
According to police, a television,
wristwatch and personal checks were
taken from the apartment of Larry
Van Dessel, Frank Martin and Allen
Tsung shortly after midnight. The
second robbery occurred at about
8:00 a.m. in the apartment of Steve
Laleff and James Antohip, where a
stereo and a basketball were stolen.
The items stolen from the Van
Dessel apartment are valued at $115;
those taken from the Laleff apart
ment are worth $3lO.
