—The Daily Collegian Tuesday, May 29, 1973 New Scope Heath denies scandal report LONDON Prime Minister Edward Heath’s office yesterday strongly denied reports that a third minister is involved in the sex scandal that has led two ministers to resign in disgrace. A detailed statement also stressed there is no evidence to support published hints that a fourth minister is implicated. Heath’s denial came only hours after sources reported that the unnamed third minister personally assured Heath that a call girl’s reported claim he was one of her $125 customers was untrue. The sources said Heath accepted the assurances and left for West Germany for a brief vacation. The statement issued soon afterward said Scotland Yard investigations had produced “no evidence any kind” to support the allegations that a third Heath government officer was involved. Vesco harassment denied SAN JOSE, Costa Rica U.S. Ambassador Viron P. Vaky denied yesterday that the Central Intelligence Agency is harassing indicted financier Robert L. Vesco and his associates in Costa Rica. The denial came in the wake of claims by Norman P. Leßlanc, a Canadian businessman and Vesco associate, that CIA agents are working to “get rid of” Vesco, himself and others. Leßlanc also claimed he and Vesco are ready to reveal “a missing link” in the Watergate scandal. Vesco has been indicted in the United States in connection with an unreported $200,000 contribution to President Nixon’s 1972 campaign. Former U.S. Atty. Gen. John N. Mitchell and former Commerce Secretary Maurice H. Stans also have been in dicted in the case. The indictments charged the contribution was made to get preferential treatment for Vesco in an investigation by the Securities and Exchange Commission into charges that he and others bilked shareholders of Investors Overseas Services of $224 million. Ford meets leftist demands BUENOS AIRES, Argentina The Ford Motor Co. began meeting leftist guerrillas’ extortion demands yesterday with $400,000 in cash donated to children’s hospitals and 3,000 food packages delivered to a shanty town. Some Peronist youths were reported opposed to accepting the food because it came as a result of terrorist activities. The Rev. Carlos Mujica, a leader of a liberal religious movement, told them: “Now is not the time to quarrel about ideologies. Let’s get this food to the people. At least the children will have tasted milk and cocoa once in their lives.” The food, part of a million demand by pay-or-die guerrillas, was stored in a church and was to be distributed this morning. About 100 persons, many wrapped in tattered ponchos against a chill autumn wind, watched the food being stacked in the church. Argentina recognizes Cuba BUENOS AIRES Argentina’s new Peronist government re-established diplomatic relations with Cuba yesterday in another of the quick reverses that have turned the country away from the conservative policies of the former military regime. Since taking office Friday, President Hector J. Campora also has freed 600 guerrillas and political prisoners, allowed the Communists to return to political life and abolished a special antisubversive court. But Campora appointed a largely moderate Cabinet, which could delay his promised socialist domestic program. Only Interior Minister Esteban Righi is a leftist. Argentina joins a growing number of hemispheric nations to defy the United States and resume contact with the Caribbean republic of Fidel Castro. Both Campora and his mentor, ex-President Juan D. Peron, have charged that U.S. imperialism in Latin America is largely responsible for Argentina’s economic un derdevelopment. Narcotics raid law suit filed SPRINGFIELD, 111. A Collinsville couple whose home was raided mistakenly by federal narcotics agents have filed a federal court suit charging their civil and constitutional rights were violated. A lawyer for Mr. and Mrs. Herbert Giglotto said the suit was mailed Wednesday and was expected to arrive yesterday at U.S. District Court in Springfield. The Giglottos said 15 agents carrying guns invaded their home without a warrant April 23, held a pistol to Giglotto’s head, handcuffed the couple, used abusive language and ransacked the house before the agents .admitted they had the wrong address. The Giglottos are seeking $1 million in damages UMW reformers win posts PITTSBURGH Candidates back by the reformist Miners for Democracy have swept to victory in a court-ordered rerun of the 1970 election of officers in locally based United Mine Workers District 5. Results of the voting released by the U.S. Department of Labor Sunday showed the MFD’s Louis Antal defeating Roland Nuccetelli 4,768 to 2,138 in balloting for the district’s presidency. Winning along with Antal were Peter Sabo as secretary treasurer and Nick DeVince as a member of the union’s In ternational Executive Board. The District 5 victory is one of a series of victories the MFD has been scoring throughout the 205,000-member union since Arnold Miller defeated former UMW President W.A. “Tony” Boyle in a court-ordered rerun of the 1969 UMW international election.
