TUESDAY, FEBRUARY 5, 1963 Defending Champs Win IM Swim Meet Sigma Pi, defending intramural swimming champion, took the first stroke in retaining its title by downing Theta Chi, 24-17, in a thrilling, near-even meet at Glennland Pool last night. In other matches, Delta Upsilon defeated Delta Sigma Phi, 25-16, with an easy victory in the final event, the 120-yd. re lay, while Acacia defeated 'Alpha Zeta, 27-14. Acacia is the only team to have won two meets, beating Sigma Alpha Mu last week. Sigma Pi' and DU drew byes in the first round. THETA CHI battled Sigma Pi evenly, right down to the home stretch. With only the relay event remaining, Sigma Pi held a slim 19-17 edge. Theta Chi almost man aged to pull it out, but a strong final surge by Dieter Heinze on the anchor leg gave Sigma Pi the laurels. ,Heinze also won the breaststroke with a good time of 40.8 Norm Allan won the freestyle and Joe Simonetta, the back stroke, to pace Theta Chi. Ben Buchanan won the diving event for Sigma Pi, followed closely by Allan. Other members of the winning relay team were Ed Skodol, Joe Bolitsky and Charlie Falcone. Acacia's impressive" victory over Alpha Zeta was sparked by four first places, while losing only the relay, Guy Jackson won the freestyle, Bruce Trotman took Rifle Coach on Radio -Sgt. Joe Watson, coach of Penn State's rifle squad, and team cap tain Rich Gogolkiewicz will be guest sports personalities on to night's Campus Sports Parade radio show. Joe Watson must be starting to wonder what it's like to win a rifle match. After winning its first four matches of the campaign, the State rifle team has now dropped three in a row. The latest defeat came Saturday against the Naval Academy, 1424-1411, at the rifle range. The Lions, coining up with their low team score of the season, couldn't capitalize on a low Navy score. In fact the Middies' score was the lowest turned in by the three squads who have beaten the riflemen this season. The high score for Navy was a 289 by Den Johnson.
