STAMP IS cast as Billy Budd, the orphan as innocent and pure as an angel. In direct contrast is the brutal, sadistic master-of arms, Mr.- Clagget (Robert Ryan). The duo, representing Evil and Good personified, clash together only subconsciously at first but end tragically when Budd strikes and kills Clagget in blind fury after being accused of inciting mutiny. Budd is executed, * and the audience is left to ponder whether or riot Budd’s goodness is as inhuman as Clagget’s cruel ty. J)aftlar|(V STATE COLLEGE W THE DAILY COLLEGIAN, UNIVERSITY PARK, PENNSYLVANIA Hollywood’s few good films to ‘‘Billy Budd!” But chalk down another one of Hollywood's several bad films to “The Lion!” The setting is Kenya, which was ' thoroughly explored last year in John Wayne's “Hatari." Only “The Lion” is in Cinema scope, which means twice as many animals as before can be compressed on the screen. UNFORTUNATELY, there are only three humans, William Hol den, Trevor Howard and Capu cine, all of whom stare at each other for 96 minutes with quiver ing eyeballs. They’re all concerned over Capucine’s Tarzan-type daughter, who’s meeting her adolescence problems the hard way. She's try ing her jungle best to win the love of her lifelong friend who is being wooed by -another fe male. She’s in love with Zamba, the trained lion!
