JANUARY 30. 1963 Matmen To Combat Layoff With Intrasquad Tourney Penn State wrestling coach Charlie Speidel has decided that the best way to keep his inactive team in shape is to hold an intrasquad wrestling tournament. The tourney will get underway today and will match members of the freshman and varsity teams in single elimina tion bouts. Opening round matches 1 against Hugh Paxton and Willy Ebaugh against Tom Balent at 123 pounds; Bob Haney against Dave Savage and Bill Whittaker against Ray Nunamaker at 130 pounds, and Dick Campbell against Roy Rose, Glenn Thiel against Mark Piven and Joe Kolich against Dave Thiel at 137 pounds. Syracuse players named were end Walt Sweeney and guard Dave Meggyesy. Halfback A 1 Snyder and center Jon Morris represent Holy Cross, while Rice placed end Gene Raesz and tackle Larry Stewart. Florida, a 17-7 Gator Bowl win ner over the Lions, was repre sented by tackle Frank Lasky and halfback Larry Dupree. 'California’s Craig Morton, the sophomore ' sensation who com pleted 20 of 28 passes for 274 yards and three touchdowns in a losing cause against State, was a hear unanimous choice at quarterback. Rounding out the team are Pitt fullback Rick Leeson and West Virginia guard Keith Melenyzer.
