OCTOBER { I2. 1962 Councils Elect Members; ChentAys Vote Voided The results of the Chemistry- Physics Student Council election were declared invalid last night by George Jackson, elections corn_ mission chairthan: Jackson said that for the bal lots, which all required write-in votes, the commission found too much similarity in the selection of candidates and in the hand writing to consider the election fair. ' Between 50 and 75 ballots were •cast 'for approximately the same candidates, tie said. In this group there were as many as! five to 10 ballots with very similar. hand writing, he added. Jeffrey Randall, president of the Chem-Phys Council, said that "improper balloting procedures" were responsible for the invalidity of the election. Another :council election is scheduled for Tuesday an d Wednesday of next week, Ran dall said. - The results of seven other co!- lege council elections were also announced by the commission last night. PENNSYLVANIA De Levie Comments On European Travel By ELLEN, BRADLEY Travel as education is too often used as a cloak to justify the ex pense involved in sightseeing and tourism, Dagobert de Levie told a capacity crowd in the Hetzel Union assembly hall Tuesday. Levie, director of the Lib eral Arts Study Abroad program, said that a distinction should be made between the academic and nori-academic program. "I DO NOT like to see academic programs mixed up with so-called educational programs. However. the#v is nothing wrong with sight seeing." he added. The Liberal Arts Study Abroad program, de Levie said, is a pro-- gram of serious study. The Uni versity is proud of the comments from French and German news papers. These papin have praised the program as one of serious work and not tourism. "OUR PROGRAM' aims at giv ing University students 'a better knowledge of the culture of a country by 'Hying and studying there. The purpose is to enrich college offerings in liberal arts studies and to increase inter national understanding," de Levie said.
