Win IM Swimming Meets

Nittany 29,' Backs. and Fayette
scored victories over Erie, Nit
tany 37, and Jordan in the second
round of IM Swimming last night
at Glennland Pool.
The fastest times of the night
were recorded in the Fayette-
Jordan contest i when Brian
Giersch won the backstroke in
40.6 an& Fred Schwartz took first
place- in the breast stroke in 41.51
to lead Fayette to a 2542 victory.
IN THE FREESTYLE event,
Hugh McGee and Lee Olsen won
the only first' -place for Jordan
when they raced to a dead heat
in 36.6 seconds. The' two swim
mers were matched stroke for
stroke for the last 10 yards of the
race.

add another live points to Fay
ette's score.
Nittany 29's victory (294) was
sparked by Jeha Reid, first in
the backstroke (43A). Jim Pappas,
winner of The diving event with
a 10:6, and Gerry, Coopey, winner
of the breaststroke in 48.3. Dick
Huber- took the only first place
for Erie in the freestyle with a
time of 39 seconds. .

Stuart inks Pirate Pact
PITTSBURGH (R) The third
time was the charm for slugger
Dick Stuart of the Pittsburgh
Pirates yesterday as he signed
his 1962 , contract. -
The 29-year-old first baseman
came to terms after his third
meeting with general manager
Joe L. Bnivirn. Stuart, probably
received a pay boost. a club
spokesman said, but salary terms
were not announced.
Stuart's 35 home runs last sea
ison was 'a club record for first
baseman. He placed fifth among
National League sluggers.
A five-year veteran. Stuart hit
.301 and also had 117 runs batted
in' for his best year.
