PAGE EIGHT Egli Will Start Two Sophs Against Maryland Tonight * * * By JIM KARL Penn State's cagers, who probably will have to wage an uphill battle all year to stay above the .500 mark, have noaling to lose and everything to gain tonight when they open the - . L.iison against a veteran Maryland squad at 8 in Rec Hall. A win against the Terrapins might give State the confidence needed to carry it through a mur derous schedule that includes Ohio State, Duke, West Virginia, lowa. Army, Navy and Temple. And a lczs to Coach Bud MU- M: on's seasoned squad would cause no eyebrow lifting. Mil- Limn has seven lettermen re i-rn-ng from last year's team which posted 'a 14-12 record in 1:e lcugh Atlantic Coast Con ference. Numbered among the Terps' victories was a 04-47 win over. Trueblood will come off aca demic probation after this term but an NCAA rule prevents him from playing until Jan. 5, the start of the winter term. Phillips has been student teach ing and he hasn't been- able to practice with the squad. Egli will start Captain Gene Earl Hoffman and John Mitchell, all of whom saw plenty of action last year, and two soph omores—Wayne Lundy and Bob by Donato. The Lion coach feels that with a few breaks the cagers can im prove on last year's 11-13 record, but he thinks that the team needs an even split in its first few ball games to do it. "If we could score an upset Saturday night it would do us a whale of good," he said at prac tice this week. An upset against the Terrapins, however, would be quite a chore. Millikan has two promising soph omores-6-7, 215-pound Joe Bar ton and 6-8, 215-pound Scott Fer guson—in addition to his seven lettermen. Ferguson, Barton and 6-7 senior Ted Marshall have been battling for Bob McDonald's old center position. McDonald, last Year's leading scorer (13.4) and top rebounder, is Millikan's only substantial loss. Bob Wilson, the only other grad uation casualty, averaged 6.5 points per game. Millikan indicated that he'll start Barton tonight, along with 6-2 standout senior Bruce Kelle her and a trio of juniors-6-6 PARISH'S ANNIVERSARY SALE Final Day flociras Scarves Suits Corduroy Solids ..
