Controversial Play Knocks Cowards From Unbeaten Ranks
It's Syracuse and Notre
Dame all over. Saturday's big
battle between the Collegian
Cowards and the Pitt News
Staff is now history, but the
circumstances surrounding the
game will be hashed around foot
ball circles for weeks to . come.

the score coming on a 3-yard pass
from "Paw" Black to Jim "Gar

attempt for the extra point was
off.
Jim O'Brien quickly brought
the Pitt News into the, game by
tossing a 73-yard pass to Mike
Ditka to tie the score. Ditka, on
loan from the Chicago Bears,
performed admirably, although
the Cowards did defense him well.
Early in the third quarter, the
Cowards moved ahead on a
spectacular 43-yard pass play.
Black rolled to his left, avoided
the grasps of three Pitt line
men and heaved a bullet pass
downfield. John "The Bomb"
Beauge arrived on the scene,
made an unbelievable one
handed catch, and rambled the

Bright futures in data transmission at W. E.
New engineers with initiative who can meet
Western Electric's high standards are offered
many exciting career opportunities with our
company in data processing development work
as it relates to. communications.
For example, Western's engineers—working

machines, such as computers, "'speak" to each
other in a language of numbers and symbols over
existing telephone communication networks.
This represents a tremendous boon to business;
and consequently, it is estimatcd that some day
there may be more machine talk than people
talk using telephone lines.
Of course, data communications is only one
of many rewarding career areas that await
