How- ever, the student tickets for Friday were sold out yesterday Segovia, sponsored by the University Artist Series, has Harrison Accused Of Stealing Plank Although the campaign for spring elections has not offi cially begun, Dennis Eisman, Campus party chairman, has accused Robert Harrison of stealing a Campus party plank. Harrison, University party nominee for SGA president, outlined a proposal for an en form he presented to his party before his nomination Sunday night. Eisman, who attended the meet ing, said that the exact plank had been presented at the Campus party meeting 45 minutes before Harrison spoke at University par ty. When questioned about the ac cusation, Harrison said that the plank was his own idea and that he had spoken on it in the Delta Zeta suite two weeks before last night's meetings. Barbara Yunk, president of Del ta Zeta, verified Harrison's claim that the entertainment-loan plank had been presented at a meeting in the.sorority suite March 27. Miss Yunk said that she had also attended the University par ty meeting Sunday night and that the plank Harrison had presented at the meeting was a verbatim ac count of what he had said March 27. The plank in question calls for a series of two to four entertain ment programs sponsored by :.EGA. Harrison suggested arrang ing programs featuring the Broth ers Four or the Kingston Trio. He suggested that the money collect ed through these programs be' used to establish a student loan, fund. In making his accusation Eis man said that he suspected Har rison or his supportefs.may have arranged for someone to attend the Campus party meeting and re lay planks back to Harrison at the University party meeting. The guitarist, born in Lina res, Spain. began his musical career by studying piano, violin and cello but soon rebelled against the "conventional in struments" after discovering a guitar in the home of a friend. He made his first public ap pearance at the age of 14 under the sponsorship of a local cul tural organization. This perfor mance was termed a "revela tion" and in a short time his name was known all over Spain. An appearance at the Paris Conservatory resulted in an ex tensive concert tour at the age of 22. Segovia's musical creativity has been well rewarded through the dedication of works by such composers as Castelnuovo-Te desco, Casella, Tansman, Rous sel, Ibert and Torroba. During a recent tour of Europe, he presented 70 concerts in 11 countries. The previous year he visited Japan where he received overwhelming acclaim in his first visit in 30 years. In 1943, Segovia first began his transcontinental tours of the U.S. and Canada appearing as soloist with several major orchestras. January, 1946, marked his first recital in Carnegie Hall resulting in a New York Herald Tribune comment by Virgil Thomson: "There is no guitar but the Span ish guitar and Andres Segovia is its prophet, I doubt if there lives a music lover with soul so dead that he could not find reward in attendance at a Segovia concert." Harrison also said that he plans to attend the summer term and will begin to put his programs into effect then. In concluding his remarks to the party, Harrison paraphrased Pres ident John F. Kennedy, saying "Ask not what SGA can do for you, ask what you can do for i SGA." Alexander's proposals to the party will form his platform for his independent candidacy. He is advocating more student-fac ulty contact. Along these lines, he suggested that fraternity and sorority cultural programs he increased. His third proposal urged fur ther support to the Kennedy Peace Corps, and he also suggested that SGA work to expand the facilities of the Stone Valley recreation area. Alexander also asked that SGA continue to request additional student parking facilities and asked that the matter of parking in the Hetzel Union lot be taken to President Eric A. Walker. As his last proposal, Alexander outlined a plan for eliminating compulsory ROTC. He asked for a student letter campaign request ing support of an Air Force pro posal for voluntary ROTC.
