Records Expected to Fall
At Quantico Relays Meet
Penn State opens its outdoor track season today at the
Quantico Relays and if pre-meet forecasts are correct, most
meet records are in danger of being annihilated.
The field is headed by a half dozen Olympians and Man
hattan's two-mile relay quartet.

ord in indoor competition this

The meet begins at n a.m.
with the discus throw the first
event. Action will continue to
morrow, when most of the re
lays will be run.

The Lion mentor said that be

win a medal in the four-mile re

Mike Miler, who ran a 4:19
mile at Quantico last year, will
r place Norman. Herm Weber,
Howie Deardorff and Steve
Moorhead round out the quar
tet.
Jon Musser, a three-year vet
eran, will compete in the dis
cus and Musser and Jim Schwab
will team up in the javelin.
Schwab set the Penn State record
in this event with a throw of

Bob Brown is a threat to win
the 100 and Don Davies, George
Metzgar, Weber and Moorhead
give State a solid entry in the
distance medley. Ltate holds
the meet record (9.53.8) for this
event.
Metzgar and Davies, both guar
itermilers, have been running well
this spring. Metzgar recorded a
(48.4 and Davies a 49.1 in time
trials last week.
Bob Grantham, a versatile
junior, will compete in three
events the broad jump, 120
high hurdles and the hop, step
and jump.
Dale Peters, Ron Beard and
I Ciro Risoldi are entered in the'
pole vault with Weber and Lionel
Bassett slated for action in the
steeplechase.
Brown, Miller, Moorhead and;
either Davies or Metzgar will;
comprise the Lion mile relay
quartet.

Plays Terps
In Opener
If the weatherman permits,
the Penn State golf team will
open its season at Maryland
today.
The Lions lost 14 1 / 2 -6 1 / 2 to the
Terps in last year's opener. Deane
Beman, former British and U.S.'
Amateur Champion is gone from!
the Terp squad, but four letter
men. return from last year's team
which compiled an 11-2 record.
Maryland already has won two
matches this year. Sophomore
IRon Scales led the Terps to a
25 1 / 2 -10% victory over Princeton',
by shooting a one under par '71.1
Maryland romped over MIT!
29 1 / 2 - 1 / 2 with Paul Quinn firing a!
par 72.
State coach Joe Boyle described
the Terps as being "very tough."
The Lion lineup will definitely
include John Morton, Bob Ruther
ford, Bob Swahn, and Tom Ball-
ing. Boyle has not announced the
other three positions.
The linksmen travel to An
napolis tomorrow to meet ECAC
champion Navy.

Last Rites for Rickey
PITTSBURGH (IP) Final
rites were held yesterday for
Branch Rickey, Jr., 47, vice presi
dent in charge of the minor
league clubs for the Pittsburgh
Pirates. He died Monday.
