TUESDAY. FEBRUARY 28. 1961 Thinclads Rip To Complete Penn State's undefeated trackmen took first place. in 10 of 12 events to rip Ohio State, 75-39, at Columbus, Ohio, Sat urday. The victory marked the first time a Nittany track team has won three indoor meets in one season. The win also strengthened State's position as one of the top contenders for the eastern cham pionship. In 1959, the last time the Lions won an indoor IC4A ti tle, State lost all three of its dual meets. With just the reverse happen ing this year, some observers may think the Lions should be the undisputed favorites. But a half-dozen teams, includ ing. Maryland, Yale, Manhattan, NYU and Villanova, have dis played plenty of power in both dual meets and invitationals. It became evident Saturday that Penn State's chances for an eastern title will rest heavily on the performances of a. handful of sophomdres. Of the 10 events State won, seven were taken by sophs. Bob Grantham led the Lion romp with three victories. He won both the 70-yard low and high hurdles and the broad jump. Gerry Norman, another first year varsity man, won both mile and the two mile for the third time this year. Norman Gymnasts Win-- (Continued from page ten) spree with a win on the parallel bars. Orkin took second (282-264), but Seward and Kenny Morrow nabbed the next two places as the Lions rushed to a 14-36 ad vantage. The lead seemed safe with only the flying rings, usually a Stale strong point, left to go. But Gerry Schaefer, the Lions' leading ringman, fell off the ap paratus and Larry Yohn suffered two major breaks as Syracuse made a last ditch bid for an up set. Orkin edged State's Jack Dona hue (265-264) for first, but Dona hue's showing insured the Nit tanies' 49-47 victory. Summaries TUMBLING; 1. Orlick, Syracuse (265); 2.Voss, Syracuse (254) ; 3.
