Weiss, Seward In Final Home By JOHN MORRIS The Penn State gym team made its home finale a roaring success by downing Pitt, 59%- 36 1 / 2 , before 5000 fans in Rec Hall Saturday night. Coach Gene Wettstonecs Lions won every event except the tumbling in boosting their rec ord to 4-1. Pitt is now 0-4. The Nittanies, led by Greg Weiss and Tommy Seward, put on their most impressive scoring show of the campaign. Weiss won the side horse and parallel bars and finished sec ond to Seward on the horizon tal bar. Seward was second on the side horse. Pitt started fast by sweeping the tumbling. with Earl McCon nell, Joe Battaglia and Bob Pin gatore. McConnell racked up a 284 to win his specialty. Battaglia (219) and Pingatore (211) beat State's Dick Criley (193) to put the Pan thers in the lead, 13-3. But then Weiss and Seward took over and the best the Pan thers could do for the rest of the meet was a second on the paral lel bars. Weiss started the rout with a flawless performance on the side horse which earned him a first place 288, the highest score of the night. Seward finished second ahead of Pitt's Ron Daugherty as the Lions narrowed the Panther lead to 17-15. State grabbed a 27-21 lead aft er competition on the horizontal bar. Seward scored a 270 to edge Weiss (263) for first and Keith Tiagenbuch (245) finished fourth br"iind Panther Ed Zaminick's 253. Captain Bob Mumau won the rope climb in 3.7 sec onds. Sophomore Bud Williams tied Pitt's Ron Daugherty on his last climb for second place. Both men were timed in four seconds flat. Beta Theta Pi defeated Phi Kappa Tau 34-3; Sigma Pi romped over Delta Tau Delta 35-6; and Chester House defeated Beaver House 32-9. Beta swept the top places in every event, including Greg Weiss' first in diving. The Lion gym star scored 23.6 in his three dives with a 10.6 on a beautiful one-and-a-half from a piked posi tion. Sigma Pi also took first place victories in all five events. Louis Benzak was the standout perform er for the winners.
