Student Counts Steps for $3OO
By LYNNE CEREFICE
An employee of a large
metropolitan hotel, who was
denied access to the hotel ele
vator, had to use the stairway
in his Nally work.
One day he decided to count
the number of steps in the build
ing. To save time, he first count
ed by 2s, but he found that when
he reached the top there was one
step left over.
Then he counted by 3s and
found that there were two steps
left over. When he counted by 4s,
there were three steps left over,
by ss, there were 4 steps left over
and by Gs, there were five steps
left over.
But when he counted by 7s, no

And Sleighs
Snow, snow. snow. That seems
to be the byword around campus
these days. However, all this
snow has stopped my colleagues
from remarking that the winters
are nothing like those when they
were kids.

Snow has also caused some
hardships among students. One
senior, who went to Florida be
tween semesters, was unable to
get back to register until the see-
Ond day of classes because the
weither had all the airlines
grounded.
There is a rumor circulating
that if the weekend snows con
tinue the fraternities are going
to use a sleigh to make their
weekly "Milk Runs" to Belle
fonte.
Ever notice how the.town lights
reflect off of the steam coming
from the power plant at night?
Imagine the confusion at Beta
Theta Pi several weeks ago when
they received a check for a co
ed's sorority fees. It seems every
thing was too "Greek" for a fath
er of a Pi Bcta Phi and he ad
dressed the envelope to Beta
Theta Pi. Everything is back to
normal now as the envelope was
fOrwarded on to the coed.
Few would realize it, but Col
legian City Editor Susan Link
routn used to play tackle football
with the boys back in Maryland.
She was called Sue Link-along
rum.
For many of you, finals are a
thing of the past, but for one
freshman her first history exam
will be her most memorable.
She was so excited that every
time she used the word dam,
she added an "n".
A sign of things to come. A
robin was seen during last week's
heavy snow storm.

steps were left over. How many
steps were in the building?
The solution of course, is 119
steps. Why?
The answer to this question can
be obtained from Mashari Baddah,
a freshman in petroleum engineer
ing from the small. Arabian coun
try of Kuwait. Baddah solved the
puzzle and won about $3OO in a
contest sponsored by the "Ara
bian," a popular magazine in
Kuwait.
What does a contest winner
do with his money?
Baddah said that he would not
use the money to help pay for
his education. He explained that Baddah said that he has always
his college expenses are being, wanted to buy a car. "Now I can,"

"I will use the money for fun,"
Baddah said, "I would especially

-In discussing California, Baddah
said that many American movies
are shown in Kuwait. "These are
mostly cowboy pictures."
Many people of Kuwait plc
