FRIDAY. FEBRUARY 3. 1961 Navy to Host Gymnasts In Battle of Unbeaten; Tomorrow’s Penn. State - Navy gym meet in Annapolis, Md., may go a long way toward deciding the Eastern cham pionship. Both squads have perfect records going into the meet State has a 2-0 log while the Middies boast a 3-0 slate. Navy has swamped Springfield, 60M>-30%; Pitt 66-30; and West Chester, 73-21. The Lions also defeated Spring field, by a 57-39 count, and fol lowed it up with a 63-33 trounc ing of Temple Jan. 14, The Middies haven't won the Eastern crown since 1944 and this could be their year. But Wettstone feels his team is ready. “Physically and mentally we are in good shape. “Navy will be very tough though and this meet will prob ably be decided on who gets the breaks.” Navy's strongest event is the rope climb mainly because of Nelson Hulme, the national champ. Hulme has already recorded a 3.4 clocking this year, just one tenth of a second off the record he set last season. The Nittany climbers are led by team captain Bob Mumau. Mu mau's fastest time this season is four seconds flat, while the Mid dies have three men with times of .3.7 or better. State will rely on Greg Weiss and Tommy Seward for most of their points, but Wettstone said that the meet may be decided by the team that records the most second and third places. Seward and Weiss were the out standing performers for the Lions In their first two wins. Weiss scored first against Springfield and Temple, and Seward took a first in tumbling and on the high bar against the Owls. A. duel could develop on the fly ing rings with Navy’s Bob Tem ple and Jim Sloat paired off against State’s Gerry Schaefer and Larry Yohn. Schaefer has taken two firsts in his specialty. He scored a 279 against Temple with a near-flaw les routine, Eye injury Sends Rice to Sidelines TOLEDO, Ohio (/P) The Du quesne University basketball team got more bad news yester day—sophomore Mike Rice will miss the rest of the season be cause of an eye injury. He is the second starter lost recently by the Dukes, who have an 8-6 record. Bob Slobodnik, 6- foot-9 pivot man, has been on the sidelines nursing an infected an kle. The talented 6-foot-2 Rice col lided with a Univei’sity of Toledo player during the second half of Wednesday night’s game which Toledo won 89-76. Rice, who was averaging 16 points and 10 rebounds a game, was admitted to Toledo Hospital. Doctors said he suffered an in terior hemorrhage of the eye, which resulted in a blood clot. The injury will not impair his vision, but he will not be able to compete for the rest of the season, MAC’S DOLLAR DAYS All Topcoats $30.00 All Sport Coats $20.00 All Wool Suits $35.00 All Corduroy Slacks $4.50 All Corduroy Suits $17.00 All Dress Hats $4.00 All Sweaters Vi-Price* $3.00 to $7.50 *None Higher Ymmnnmrin mswmuvuvwwwuwwwmnmm i | ACCESSORIES - SPORT SHIRTS j ; \ j| ALL 14-PRICE |i _J) fo. Hoak was the Steelers’ fifth draft choice. Steeler coach Buddy Parker says he wants to use Hoak as an offensive halfback. Hoak was a halfback during his freshman and sophomore years before being switched back to quarterback this past season. He was an All-State quarter back at Jeannette, Pa., High School.
