THURSDAY. NOVEMBER 17. 1960 Assembly To Discuss Impeaching The Student Government] Association Assembly will consider a constitutional amendment which will define impeachment procedures at its meeting at 8 tonight in 203 Hetzel Union Building. The amendment woud permit impeachment rules which are already in the constitution for SGA officers to be applied to Assemblymen. These rules state 1 the grounds for impeachment] and provide that the accused] officer will be tried before the Assembly with the chairman of the Supreme Court presiding. A three-fourths vote of the con stitutional membership is neces sary for. conviction under the rules. Two of the main grounds for impeachment, according to Du ane Alexander, chairman of the Reorganization and Evaluation Committee, . are embezzlement and misconduct in office. Alex ander said he felt the provision which would most concern Assem blymen would be misconduct in office. This, he said, could include such things as absences- and con duct unbecoming to a University student. Alexander emphasized that violation.of the procedural rule permitting no more than three absences a semester would not automatically be grounds for impeachment. In order to begin impeachment proceedings, a motion from an Assemblyman would have to be passed by a majority vote. Im peachment proceedings, therefore, will be brought at the discretion of Assemblymen, Alexander said.
