The fast moving Mounties have ripped off six straight victories over Ohio Universi t y, Fairmount State, Waynesburg, Richmond, a n d Piit prior to today's tilt. Their closest scrape with defeat ramie against Pitt last Saturday when they squeaked past the Pan thers. 27-28. The Lion harriers routed Pitt. 19-40. Coach Chick Werner, running his squad through a light work out yesterday afternoon, ex pressed great pleasure with the showing of his team in practice this week. "This has been a great week for .the Penn State cross country team. The Lion senior has done a great job this season, garner ing two firsts against Corni.ll and Pitt. In the Michigan State meet. AVeber battled the Spartans' Clayton Ward for third position. but in the final 200 yards, he fell behind and had to settle for fourth. Gerry Norman, State's sopho more sensation, will be shooting for his eighth straight first place today against the Mounties. Norman lost the first meet he ran for Penn State when he placed second to Cornell's Dick Chapman in last year's freshman opener. But since then he hasn't been defeated. He won his next three fresh man meets, took the freshman IC4A crown, and has added three varsity firsts this year. The unbeaten Lions go against West Virginia (6-0) at home today, mance came against Michigan State, the defending national champs, when he ran away from the field last Saturday to win in 25:45.8. He was 20 seconds ahead of teammate Steve Moor head. Moorhead. who figures to be one of the top Lion milers when the track season gets under way, has done a commendable job for the harriers this season, tying for first at Cornell and taking a sec ond in the Spartan meet. At Pittsburgh. the Lion junior was troubled with illness and fin ished back in tenth position. Lion sophomore, Howie Dear dorff, has posted a respectable record for his first year . of var sity competition. Deardorff's best performance came against Cornell when he was involved in a five-way tie for first. Since then he has recorded a fourth and a seventh. Lion seniors, Ernie Noll and Denny Johnson, also will be out to improve their slates against the Mountaineers today.
