FRIDAY. SEPTEMBER 30. 1960 Penn State Clash With Penn State will open its 1960 cross country season this afternoon at Ithaca, N.Y.; against a weakened Cornell team. Injuries to Dick Chapman and Eric Groon, Cornell's top harriers, make Penn State the favorite today. Captain•Herm Weber, Steve Moorhead and Denny John- son, who finished second, third, and fourth respectively last year against Cornell will be the top men in State's lineup. Sophomore standout Gerry Norman adds ex tra power to the Lion lineup. Norman, the freshman INA champion in 1959, lost only once last year and that was to Chap man who will be watching from the sidelines today. Ernie Noll, who lettered in 1958 but missed the 1959 campaign, also will be on hand this after noon. Noll turned in a respectable season as a sophomore, usually finishing behind the Lions' Fred dy Kerr, Ed Moran, Dick Engel brink, and Weber. Senior Dave La Hoff, juniors Mike Miller and Fred Larson, and sophomores Lionel Bassett, Howie Deardorff, Walt Miller and Dave Eversole round out atate's lineup. - The Lion harriers will be look ing for their fifth straight win over the Big Red. Last year State had little trouble with Cornell as Engelbrink finished first.
