FRIDAY. SEPTEMBER 30. 1960 Parking Regulations Changed for Game Changes will be made in the routing of traffic on cam pus before and after Saturday's football game _with Missouri in an effort to eliminate congestion and speed cars to and from parking areas. Walter W. Trainer, chairman of the University stadium traffic committee, said that one of the major revisions in the traffic pattern will be the direction of Park Ave. traffic east to reserved parking areas over the stone road known as "Farm Road" north of the stadium.. Approach to red, yellow and green areas will be possible via this road. After turning onto Park Ave, parking permit holders should stay in the left lane of the two lane eastbound traffic in order to get into the proper parking area at the stadium. The other route for reserved parking permit holders is the use of E. Foster Ave. and the new University Dr. This is for red and green parking permit holders. There is NO access to unreserved areas along this route. Cars approaching the black or unreserved parking areas will use Shortlidge and Curtin .Rds.. ex cept those on Park Ave. which will continue on University Dr. to the entrance from the drive. Cars approaching from the west and wishing to go to unreserved parking lots are advised to remain on E. College Ave. until reaching Shortlidge Rd, at which point they should turn north to Curtin Rd. Those attempting to reach the yellow parking area will use the same route. University officials remind fans that a charge is made for parking in all areas near the stadium, in cluding the unreserved areas west of University Dr. The red and green areas east of University Dr. are spaces reserved in advance. PENNSYLVANIA Monitor System Enforces Regulations in Library A monitor system to en courage students to maintain quiet in the Pattee Library has been established, Ralph W. McComb, University li brarian, announced today. Moni tors will be present to enforce library regulations on weekday evenings from 7 to 9 p.m. and on weekend afternoons and evenings. The monitor system will be on a trial basis for one month, in an effort to improve studying con- Aitions. It Will not be continued if students make a voluntary ef fort tolessen the noise themselves, McComb said. "The monitor should not be ne cessary," he said, "and she will ,not be necessary if students get in , the habit of recognizing the li brary as a place to study." • He said that absolute silence :was not the goal, but instead that students should establish a tradi tion of reasonable quiet while in ROCK 'N' ROLL or JAll by J. The problem of noise in the li brary has long been an issue. The acoustical tiles on the ceilings of the reading rooms cut down part of the noise, he said, but the sound of students' conversations especially those who congregate in lobby and on the stairs are dis turbing to those interested in se rious study. The present monitors will try to remind students of regulations rather than act as disciplinarians. "I am sorry that the monitor sys tem is necessary," said Mrs. Mar garet K. Spangler, assistant li brarian, "since the HUB and the lounges in the dorms are avail able for social activity."
