PAGE EIGHT Retiring Of Love "Penn State is my life," says Sheldon C. Tanner, profes sor, administrative legal adviser and personal friend to 19,652 students. Tanner retired last month the University and mold its stu dents. Be was accorded the rank of profesor emeritus. More than a prOfessor of busi ness law, Tanner has been an ad viser to the University on corpor ate regulations and for years has been the unofficial legal coun selor for the student body. For 18 years he served as faculty ad viser to the Interfraternity Coun cil. It is not unusual, he said, to be called at any hour of the night by "a kid in a jam." "Never once has a judge re fused to parole a boy to my cus tody," he said. Tanner claims that the 19,562 students he has personally taught in his 33 years is a record un equaled in the 105-year history of the University. Tanner is a widely recognized authority on business law and has written several ar ticles and research papers in the field. His book. "Principals of Busi ness Law" is considered the bible for persons preparing for the state Certified Public Accountants ex aminations. He codified Trustee regulations 'governing the University and pre pared an historical abstract of the charter. He has also codified state and federal laws governing the University. In 1938 Tanner compiled a comprehensive study of taxa tion of University bonds. A world traveler, holder of sev eral military and governmental positions and a private labor dis pute arbitrator, Tanner remains dedicated to the teaching profes sion. PENNSYLVANIA Women's Cob' Offers Economy The College Cooperative Society, organized in 1938, provides an eco nomical off-campus living unit for women. Located at 244 East Nittany Ave., the Coop offers room and board to college women for $2.15 per day and offers board only to men for $1.50 per day. But the Coop is more than just a rooming or boarding house. It gives students a chance to share expenSes and work while living in a congenial social atmosphere. A social program of activities and parties is also a part of the Coop living experience. Everyone living or eating there holds membership in the group. I Weisgaii Presents 'Musk Score Work ITo Rare Collection Dr. Hugo Weisgall, noted musi cal composer and conductor who served as distinguished visiting professor of music at the Univer sity last year, has presented a printed copy of the piano -vocal score of one of his works to add to the Rare Book Collection in the Library. The work is a one-act opera, titled "Purgatory," written in 1958 to the poetry of William Butler Yeats. The 53-page copy, with the com poser's hand-marked corrections, was sent to Ralph W. McComb, University librarian, as a memen to of Weisgall's stay on campus. The score is published by Inde pendent Music Publishers, New York.
