FEBRUARY 24. 1960 Haworth to Speak At Matrix Dinner Well-known columnist Mary Haworth will be the guest speaker at this year's Matrix Dinner, held annually to honor outstanding students on campus. Sponsored by Theta Sigma Phi, women's professional journalism fraternity, the d Exchange Plan For Librarians Begun Here Exchange programs are no novelty to the University— professors, students and now librarians are sent to other universities for work and study. Miss Eleanor Ch'ing, research assistant, is current y working at the Fred Lewis Pattee Library while Mrs. Margaret Monico oc cupies her position as document librarian at the University of Hawaii. This is the first such exchange for each university. Miss Chong has worked in the Pattee library since Septem ber and will remain until Aug ust. She said that she had be come interested in the switch because she wanted to try some other type of library work. She also wanted to visit the United States again. Miss Chong received her masters degree in library science from the Univer sity of Illinois and took her bach elor of arts degree at the Univer sity of Hawaii. Miss Chong said that the Uni versity of Hawaii library is much smaller than the library here be cause the student body is about one-third the size. She added that there are no de partmental libraries at the Uni versity of Hawaii. Student leaders and faculty and administration members have received invitations to the semi-formal affair which will be held at 6:30 p.m. Sunday in the Hetzel Union ballroom. Admission to the din ner is by invitation only. Those students who have received in vitations must pick up their tickets at the Hetzel Union desk before noon Friday. The members of Theta Sigma Phi will present their traditional skit, which satirizes campus events and personalities. Three awards will be made to outstanding senior women, The Cap Girl award goes to a senior woman who has been in a hat society at some time. The Quill Girl will be chosen from out standing women who have never been in a hat society. The Matrix girl will be chosen by guests who will vote at the dinner Sun day. TIRED ? ? ? To be eligible, they must have gained admission to the Horace H. Rackham School of Graduate Studies as degree candidates in library science. The stipend given is $3OOO paid in 12 installments starting July ; 5. The library will pay the stu-i dent's fees for the year.
