Bouts will continue daily at 5 pm. for the next three weeks. * ★ IM Boxing Opens with Leman, Walter, Hill wig, Kiess Victors By DEAN BILLICK Intramural boxing came off the ropes last evening as four budding pugilists fought their way to victory and six others won forfeits in the first round of competition. The tournament, which will be completed before Christmas vaca tion, schedules bouts in eight weight classes, from the 128-pound class to the unlimited class. AH matches are fought in Rec Hall beginning daily at 5 p.m. The finals will be held on Dec. 16. All action night was in the fraternity division. The win ners in the four matches were Bill Laman of Sigma Nu, Jim Walter of Alpha Sigma Phi, Bill Hill wig 'of Delia Upsilon. and Dean Kiess of Phi Delta Theta. In the first match of the season 3 Teams Romp in IM Cage Intramural basketball continued Beta Theta Pi and Phi Kappa Psi to bounce along as Alpha Phi Al- eked out victories over Theta Xi pha, Zeta Beta Tau and Alpha Chi and Phi Delta Theta, respectively. Rho scored impressive wins. Independent basketball saw ZBT had the easiest time, trouncing Sigma Alpha Mu, 39-7. Dave Bergstein outscored the en tire SAM squad to pace the scor ers with 12 points. Behind the 15-point marksman ship of Jerry Dukes, Alpha Phi Alpha rolled over Delta Theta Sig ma; 42-15. The highest scoring quintet of the evening was Alpha Chi Rho who rippled the nets for 43 tallies in its 43-20 victory over Phi Kappa Theta. Bill Shoop dumped 18 markers through the hoop, leading Sigma Phi Epsilon in its 29-20 decision! over Kappa Delta Rho. j In other fraternity games, Del-] ta Phi defeated Delta Chi, 22-12;j Delta Upsilon topped Phi Sigma! Hillwig, who fought out of a southpaw stance, stag gered Hullow twice in the third round, causing the fight to be stopped. Laman and Edward Roberts, Phi Sigma Kappa, battled head to head and toe to toe for three rounds with Laman copping the split decision. Both boys displayed little defense in the free-wheel ing brawl. Each fighter had his moments as both were jolted with jabs to the head. Throwing rights and lefts to the heart and chin. Kiess staved off a second round rally by Bill Leary to win a unanimous de cision in the 158-pound class. Leary, who flashed a good left jab, threw the best combination of the evening with a stiff right followed by a crushing uppercut nine games completed. Jordan downed Erie House, 10-14; Schuyl kill House stopped Blair House, 22-17; Yogi Bears bowed to Mari lyn House, 24-23; Scranton Min ers defeated the Cyclones, 27-15; Bucks House squeaked by Mont gomery, 22-20 and Phakes romped over Degenerates, 45-37. Walter displayed the best style and poise of the night as he won a unanimous verdict over Jeffrey Foster in the 135-pound class.
