quarterback, sat out most of tl
game after suffering a slight co:
cussion.
Despite sitting out half the
game, Lucas managed to pick up
69 yards passing. And for the
second straight week he dazzled
the fans with a perfectly executed
double reverse pass good for 58
yards.
West Virginia scored first in
the opening minutes after full
back Bob Lively recovered a
Dick Hoak fumble on the Penn
State 27.
The Mounties could move only ';-.4
five yards in three downs and on
fourth down skinny Johnny
Thackston, a place kicking spe
cialist who doesn't wear pads,
booted a 39-yard field goal to
give the Mounties 3-0 edge.
Thackston's field goal marked
the second straight week that the
Lions were behind in the opening
minutes.
The Lions took the lead a
few minutes later when Penn
State halfback Jim Kert inter
cepted a Danny Williams aerial
and galloped 25 yards through
the whole West Virginia team
for the score. Sam Stellatella
missed the extra point and the
Lions led 6-3. It was Stellatella's
first miss in 14 tries.
Kochman's 52-yard run before
the end of the quarter upped the
Nittany lead to 12-3. Stellatella's
try for the extra point was good
and the Blue & White had a 13-3
bulge.
The Lions broke the game wide
open midway in the second period
when Galen Hall, faking beauti
fully on a bootleg, passed 39
yards to end John Bozick for six
points. Stellatella again booted the
extra point and the Lions took a
20-3 halftime lead.
Halfback Eddie Cape scored
Penn State's last touchdown

Coach Says Team
'Just Quit' Sunday
PITTSBURGH (IP) "They
just quit."
That was the simple statement
of Coach Buddy Parker after his
Pittsburgh Steelers took a 45-24
lacing at the hands of the Chicago,
Cardinals Sunday at Soldiers Field
in Chicago.
It was undoubtedly the worst
game the Steelers have played in
a long time and only few of the
players escaped Parker's wrath
after the game. ,
Four Steelers were injured.
Punter Bobby Luna suffered a
torn cartilege of the chest; full
back Larry Krutko a dislocated
finger; tackle Joe Lewis a sprain
ed ankle; and halfback Jack Call
a- pulled leg • muscle.

Richie's Ready
For Orangemen
Richie Lucas got final medical
clearance yesterday to lead Penn
State against Syracuse on Beaver
Field Saturday in a battle for
Eastern college football suprem

The Lions' great All-America
quarterback candidate suffered a
minor concussion in the West Vir
ginia_ game Saturday. But the
Nittany medical brigade says
Richie is healthy and fit and will
be in the lineup.
Lion coach Rip Engle and the
rest of the Nittany coaching staff
decided to keep him out after he
,was hurt Saturday just for "pre
cautionary measures."
