The Lions took the lead a few minutes later when Penn State halfback Jim Kert inter cepted a Danny Williams aerial and galloped 25 yards through the whole West Virginia team for the score. Sam Stellatella missed the extra point and the Lions led 6-3. It was Stellatella's first miss in 14 tries. Kochman's 52-yard run before the end of the quarter upped the Nittany lead to 12-3. Stellatella's try for the extra point was good and the Blue & White had a 13-3 bulge. The Lions broke the game wide open midway in the second period when Galen Hall, faking beauti fully on a bootleg, passed 39 yards to end John Bozick for six points.
