WEDNESDAY. OCTOBER 7. 1959 Theologians to Give First Grad Lecture The Reverend Gustav Weigel, theologian at Woodstock College, will speak on “Ec'umenics: Old and New World” at 8 tonight in 121 Sparks as the first lecturer in the Graduate School Lecture Series. In his talk, Father Weigel will discuss the relationship between the ecumenical move ment which in 1948 brought forth the World Council of Churches and the ecumenical council which Pope John has said he will con voke. A graduate of Woodstock Col lege. Father Weigel received his doctor of philosophy and doc tor of sacred theology degrees at Universita Gregoriana in Rome. He is a leading Catholic theologian in the world today and a member of the Jesuit or der. Father Weigel has written sev eral books the most recent of which have beeri “A .Survey of Protestant Theology in Our Time"; ‘‘A Catholic Primer on the Ecumenical Movement”; and "Faith and Understanding in America." This will be Father Weigel’s second visit to the campus with in the past two years. At the Brotherhood Banquet held in February, 1957, he was ther guest speaker. .. Tonight’s lecture is being co sponsored by the Office of the University Chaplain and the Graduate School. Faculty Grants Now Available The Danforth Foundation has announced that' applications for teacher study grants for 1960-61 will be received until Oct. 20 from college and university teach ers. Deans of the various colleges have information concerning ap plications. The grants, awarded yearly on the basis of academic excellence, personality congenial to the class room, and sincere religious in quiry, are . for study toward the doctoral degree at the American university of the recipient’s choice. Candidates must be between 25 and 40 years old, and must have had at least one year of successful graduate work and three of teaching experience, two of which must have been pn the college level. Student’s Car Damaged From Two-Car Collision A two-car collision at the 4-way stop intersection of Curtin and Shortlidge Rds. Monday result ed in an estimated $3O damages to a student’s car. Carl Mclntire, junior in forestry from Kensington, Md., was travel ing east on Curtin Rd. and Lee Homan, Boalsburg, was traveling south on Shortlidge Rd. when the accident occurred. Jan. 30 with the title of professor emerita of physical education. • Dr. John D. Lawther, associate dean, of the College of Physical Education and Athletics, said Miss Haidt has built a program that has become one of the best, most varied and most extensive in the country. Achievements during her ca reer have been the establishment of the required program in health and physical education for wom en, the establishment and growth of the Women’s Recreation Asso ciation and the building of the Mary Beaver White Recreation Hall for women. McDermott Named To Forestry Staff Dr. Robert E. McDermott has been named professor of forestry and head of the Department of Forest Management. McDermott, who succeeds H. Norton Cope, received a bachelor of science degree in forestry and master of science degree in botany from lowa State College of Agri culture and Mechanics Arts.
