He was active in the Inter- State Advertising Managers As sociation and served as a director of the Advertising Federation of America. In 1932-34 he was dis trict governor of the New Eng land district of the Federation. His book, "Basic Text in Ad vertising." published in 1955, ' is widely used in journalism schools throughout the country. Prior to his appointment to the University faculty, Davis served 22 years as advertising manager on the Springfield, Mass., Repub lican, News and Union, all papers of the Republican Publishing Co. He also taught evening classes for 12 years at Northeastern Uni versity in Springfield. Davis was born on July 11, 1896. at Poland, Me., was grad uated from Edward Little High School in Auburn, Me., and re ceived his bachelor of arts de gree from Bates College, Lewis ton, Me.
