PAGE TWO Christie Thriller Kept Top Secret Nobody's talking about "The Spiders Web," Mateer Play house's next play which opens Monday at Standing Stone. The members of the east and the Theater Arts Department are keeping the plot "top secret" until opening night. "The Spiders Web," by Agatha Christie, however, is sure 25 Teachers To Participate In Conference Twenty-five teachers from tech nical and Junior high school', will open a conference Sunday on In strumentation and Contiol. The conference, which will end i July 24, is sponsored by the Na tional Science Foundation with IPachers from all over the United States attending. The purpose of the conference! is to train the teachers in dif ferent areas of instrumentation, and control. There are ten areas' to be covered: pressure, tempera-, lure, flow, level, analysis, closed: loop, open loop, process control,' machine control and economics) of instrumentation and control. Classes will be held Mondays through Saturday During the conference, the members will . make three inspection trips to the Sylvania plant in Altoona, West Virginia Pulp and Papet Co. in Tyrone and a combined trip to the power plant, water tunnel and research laboratory at the University. The twenty-five members were chosen by their academic back ground and experience after sub mitting applications. Perhaps the most interesting I information to theater-g oe r s concerning the play is the cast ing of Miss Peggy. Lang in the role of Pippa Hailsham-Brown. According to Harvey Whitten, publicity director for the Play house, Miss Lang "created" this characterization during her suc cessful tour of the play with Jan Sterling. This will be Miss Lang's first appearance at the Standing Stone theater. Miss Lang began her acting career at community theaters at her borne in Oakland, Calif. Miss Lang came to the East a few years ago to attend the American Theater Wing School in New York City. She grad uated from the Wing last May. She seems to be the only per son who will talk about the com ing performance of "The Spiders Web" even then she won't say much. She describes it as an in teresting combination of humor land mystery full of standard old !English characters with their wry outlook on life. When asked her opinion of the Mateer Playhouse, Miss Lang re plied "It brings out the pioneer instinct in me and it is proof that you can't kill the theater All needs is a roof and a platform to survive." STATE COLLEGE, PENNSYLVANIA 80 to Enroll In Research Conference Eighty engineers, physicists, mathematicians and scientists will enroll Sunday in the third, annual Research and Manage ment Development Conference. The conference will end July 9. The general theme of the semi nar will be "Management Slung for Scientists in Supervision." The conference is designed to, provide training for the research supervisor in planning, organiz ing and controlling his project so he can become a more effi- I cient executive. J. William Caldwell, assistant professor of industrial engineer-' ing and general chairman of the' seminar, has prepared a program for those who wish to improve, their skills in administrative techniques and human relations. The speaker for the keynote address on Sunday will be Dr. Merritt A. _Williamson, dean of the College of Engineering and Architecture. Gifford G. Quarles, former Chief Scientist of the U.S. Army Ballistic Missile Agency at Red stone Arsenal, Alabama, and now the Chief Advisor to the Army Corps of Engineers, Washington D.C. will be the speaker Monday night.
