Vie will serve aq Interfrater nity Council advisor and will handle all fraternity affairs in the office of the Dean of Men. Pollock resigned to accept a, post as dean of students at Union, College, Schenectady, N.Y. He served as a member of the dean of men's office staff since 1953 and had previously served as as sistant dean of men at Ohio State University. Ile was a vocational agriculture and mathematics instructor in the Cornwall High School, Corn wall, from 1953 to 1954 and then taught three years at the Oxford Area High School, Oxford, before returning to Penn State. Mrs. John Bruce Dodd of Spo kane, Wash., proposed the idea in memory of her father who had reared six motherless children, her and five brothers. The Spokane Ministerial Al liance promoted her idea and the Spokane Young Men's Christian Association made the day a real ity a year later, in 1910. Gen. Alfred M. Guenther, president of the American Na tional Red Cross and former Su preme Allied Commander in Eu rope and Commander-in-Chief of the United States European Com mand, is the 1959 National Father of the Year. Prof to Attend Institute Orvel A. Schmidt, associate pro fessor in forestry, has been grant ed a two month leave of absence to work with the International Cooperation Administration and the United States Operations Mis sion in Panama.
