THURSDAY, APRIL 16. 19i9 Cabinet Freshm a Ail-University Cabi new enlarged student coming freshmen next i Benjamin Bronste' reasons for the propos; Union. The proposed handboo be 6 by 9 inches with 96 and will contain 70 pictur artwork. A total of 6QOO will be printed. Reasons given for the proposed change are: 1) increased illustra tions will lead to maximum read ership and 2) c ounselors and freshmen both seemed to think that the book used in past years did not serve the purpose of in fofming new students about the University. A section on student govern ment will be included for the first time in the new handbook because of the reorganization sys tem which will be in effect next fall. Government previously was included in a section on extra curricular activities. Bronstein will recommend that the section on religion be deleted and incorporated into a section on general information. This is due to the fact that every religious group sends out its own information to incom ing freshmen. The handbook, together with, the freshman dink, will be sold at the Book Exchange for $1.75. In other business, Cabinet members will be asked to ap prove the judicial reorganization plan for the third and final time. If approved, the judicial article will be incorporated into the Stu dent Government Association con stitution which will go before the student body in a referendum next Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday. Campus to Join State-Planned Defense Alert The University will take part in a state-wide Civil Defense Alert scheduled for sometime between 9:30 a.m. and 5 p.m. tomorrow. All University personnel, stu dents and visitors on campus will be asked to follow the following directions upon hearing a series of whistles; •ALERT: steady blast for 3 to 5 minutes, During this alert, resi dents should tune their radios to the Conelrad stations-640 or 1240 kilocycles—for emergency instruc tions. *TAKE COVER: short blasts for 3 minutes. At this signal, all vehicles on campus will come to a complete stop and all persons will take cover in the nearest build ing. GALL CLEAR: one steady bias which means that normal activi ties may be resumed. immediately upon the signaling of the first alert, all members of the Disaster Planning Council should be present at their desig nated posts.
