FRIDAY, APRIL 10, 1959 Lion Spi In Quan The Blue and White trackmen lift the lid on the 1959 outdoor season today at the Quantico Marine Base in Virginia when they engage in the first day of the two-day Quantico relay carnival. Coach Chick Werner's crew will enter a collegiate and amateur show. The Lions will enter six relay and nine individual events. Captain Ed Moran and ace sprinter Bobby Brown will run in individual invitational event s. Brown goes in the 100-yard dash feature this afternoon, while Mo ran will run in the invitational mile toinorrow. The Lions' highly touted 21- mile relay team will consist of Moran, Dick Engelbrink, Char lie King and Herm Weber. Sprinters Jim O'Connor, Bob Szeyller and Dick Hambright will join Brown on a strong 880-yard relay team. Brown, Szeyller and O'Connor finished in a dead heat for their 220 jaunt in time trials last Saturday with clockings of 21.5, 21.58 and 21.6, respectively. These same four speedsters will run in the 440-yard relay with each man sprinting 110. In the 100-yard time trials, Brown, Szeyller and Hambright all ran under 10 seconds and O'Connor was right behind in 10 flat. Two medley relays will also be run. The Lion distance med ley foursome will be Ham bright, King, Engelbrink and Moran. Don Davies, Dave Tru itt, George Metzger and Bill Schwab compose the sprint medley relay squad. John Fareira and Truitt or John Williams will enter the 120-yard high hurdles. John Tullar will lead the Nit tany field crew in the day's open ing events Tullar will be joined by Andy Nyce, Jon Musser and Jim Wambold in the discus throw. Fareira is the only Penn State man in the high jump and Dick Gross is the lone broad jumper. Tullar tossed the discus 158' 10" in last weekend's trials. Ny ce's best heave was 142' 6". The javelin, shot put and pole vault events will take place to morrow. Tullar and Nyce will put the shot and Gross, Ron Beard and Dale Peters will pole vault for the Lions. Nyce will also throw the spear along with Musser, Jim Schwab and Stratton Schaeffer. Coach Werner will send Bill Schwab, King, Engelbrink and Davies or George Jones in the last relay—the 2-mile.
