Van Druten, late English dra matists and novelist, used love, youth and university life as the basis for many of his plays. The basic elements in "The Druid Cir cle" are very much like those in van Druten's first play, "Young Woodly," which deals with a poetic youth who falls in love with his headmaster's wife. "Young Woodly" was at first banned in England but was suc cessfully produced in New York. Van Druten is one of the few dramatists who have success fully produced a 3-act play us ing only three characters. He did this in "Voice of the Turtle." Van Druten wrote 23 other plays, including "I Remember Ma ma," "I Am a Camera" and "Leave Her to Heaven." and four fiction and three non-fiction books.
