PAGE FOUR Frosh Talent Show Auditions Will Begin in HUB Today Auditions for a freshman talent show will be held from 8 to 10 a.m. and from 2 to 4 p.m. today in the Hetzel Union assembly room. The talent show will be pre sented as a part of the Fresh man Class Night, to be held from 8 p.m to midnight Saturday in Reel cation Building. Show auditions will be con dueted by Robert Navarra, secre tary of the Board of Dramatics and Forensics, which is sponsor ing the class night. Fie,hmen wearing dinks and name cards will be admitted without charge to class night. Upperelaskmen d a t e s also may attend The class night is being held this year for the first time. It replaces Fun Night, the tradi tional event held as a get-ac quainted mixer for freshmen. The class night program in cludes dancing from 8 to 9 p.m., smgmg school songs from 9 to 9 30 p.m., the talent show from 9:30 to 10:30 p.m., refreshments from 10630 to 11 p.m. and dancing from 10 30 to midnight. The singing will be led by Dr. uinm el Fishburn and Frank Gullo, of the Department of Music. Cornell Awards 'Ph.T.' Cornell University has award ed a Ph T. Reed Ferguson, administrative head of the Extension Conference Center since 1954, has been named to the newly created post of director of University relations. In his new role, Ferguson will be responsible for formal public occasions and effective reception of visitors to campus. He also will assist the vice presi dent for development in admin istering the University's relations with the State. President Eric A. Walker said the new office was created pri marily to expedite the reception of the steadily-expanding num ber of visitors to University Park and centers throughout the State. At the present time, more than 30,000 persons annually enroll in conferences, institutes and short c our se s. Additional thousands visit the campus for field days, tours, professional meetings and exhibits, Ferguson will coordinate the various means used by the Uni versity to welcome these indi viduals and groups to the cam pus. Ferguson, a graduate of the University, Class of 1936, served as administrative head of the Pottsville Center before joining General Extension on the campus in 1954. SEPTEMBER 7, 1958 Appointed Director Ville Center as an instructor in fine arts during the years from 1942 to 1945. Upon graduation he joined the Avon-Grove Consolidated Schools at West Grove as sup ervisor of art, going next to Fort Hill High School, Cum- berland, Md., as an art teacher and spending a year as techni cal illustrator and editor for Consolidated Vultea at Allen town. He served the American Red Cross in 1945-46 as assistant field director in the Fleet Chaplain's Office at Pearl Harbor. Ferguson, a native of Kirk wood, Lancaster County, spent a year in graduate study at Har vard University, and also pur sued special work in art at the University of Pennsylvania and the University. He is married to the former Cornelia Carpenter, of Pottsville, and they live with their daughter, 10-year-old Cor nelia, at 512 W. Hillcrest Ave., State College.
