PAGE TWO Greeks Commended For Work Projects The Interfraternity and Panhellenic Councils have been singled out for special praise by several State College organi zations for their outstanding community service during Greek Week. John Dittmar, director of recreation for the State College Park and Recreation Board, com plimented the fraternity and so rority groups highly on their work done during the Work Projects Day. Dittmar felt this year's proj ects were the best undertaken since the project day began. The effect on the community as a whole was quite noticeable and the majority of the citizens really appreciated the projects, Dittmar said. He stressed the line coopera tion given the recreation board by the sponsoring groups. Dittmar expressed his grafi tude for the work through a letter written to 0. Edward Pol lock, assistant to the dean of men in charge of fraternity af fairs. Pollock also received personal thanks from F. P. Higginbothom, pastor of the State College Church of Christ, for the work done on the church grounds and for the floral display on Greek Sunday. State College Borough Man- Agronomists Start Plan For Grain Research A program in buckwheat re search has been started by agron omists, supported by grants to taling $2500 a year from eight milling firms. University to Test Alcoa Room Model A full-scale model of a room in the 1958 "Alcoa'House," produced by the Aluminum Company of America, has been set up in the "Climatometer" in the thermal re search laboratories of the engi neering experiment department and will be subjected to extensive tests relating to temperature, hu midity, rain leakage and wind re sistance. STATE COLLEGE PENNSYLVANIA Math Prof Gets Post in Beirut For 2 Years Dr. Raymond G. D. Ayoub, as sociate professor of mathematics, will leave in July for the Middle East where he will serve two years as a visiting professor of mathematics at the American University of Beirut. His wife, Christine Ayoub, who is a lecturer in mathematics at the University, also will serve on the mathematics staff at the American University. Ayoub was named to the faculty at the University in 1952 after serving as a Benjamin Pierce re search instructor at Harvard Uni versity. He is a graduate of Mc- Gill University, where he also re ceived his master of science de gree, and received his doctor of philosophy degree from the Uni versity of Illinois. Mrs. Ayoub is a graduate of Bryn Mawr with her master's de gree from Radcliffe College and her doctor of philosophy degree from Yale University. Enroute to Beirut the couple will attend the International Con gress of Mathematicians meetings in August in Edinburgh, Scotland. Ancient Painting Technique Used by Student far Thesis Painting with beeswax, an art form found in ancient Egyptian tombs, is the medium being used by Myrrl H. Krieger, graduate student in art education from Cincinnati, Ohio, for her doctoral thesis proj ect. While the use of beeswax is an ancient art and was common un til about the 16th century, it wasn't used much in this country until aboUt twenty years ago. Wax and paint are built up, layer upon layer, and can be scraped off to suit the artist's desire. A brilliant luster can be , obtained by rubbing the painting, with a soft cloth. Many beeswax paintings found' in Egyptian tombs show a rich, jewel-like finish, similar to fresh paint. In painting her thesis project, Mrs. Krieger worked in the bee laboratory of Edwin J. Anderson, professor of agriculture, near the source of the beeswax.
