THURSDAY. APRIL TO. 1958 Williams Named Aide To Prexy Dean of Admissions Clarence O. Williams was named Assistant to the President for Special Services yesterday. Williams was commissioned to study standards, admissions and recruitment as they are likely to affect the University during the period of growth ahead. Announcing the appointment, President Eric A. Walker said “only the most careful planning will enable us to prepare ade quately for the flood of high school graduates that soon will be seeking admission to the col leges and universities of Pennsyl vania.” Walker also said Williams will serve as hii; personal repre sentative in executing details of the many educational projects now drawing the University steadily closer to the private colleges and ur iversities of the state. Williams, who joined the staff in 1926 as assistant professor of education, and who has held his present position since 1951, will assume his new duties July 1. He anticipated ihat his new assignment will entail consider able spadework and planning in both faculty and student areas. Recruitment of new fac ulty members will also be one of his major concerns. A native of Russellville, Mo., Williams is a graduate of War rensburg, Mo., State Teachers College with a master of arts de gree from Columbia University, and a doctor of education degree from New York University. Display Shows New Venezuela New developments in Venezuela are shown in posters in the dis play cases of the Pattee Library. The developments are largely the result of revenue from the country’s oil industry. Venezuela received over $1.3 billion for the development of their oil resources in 1956. Much of the money was spent on United States products.
