Burns pointed to the purchas ing 'program at Michigan State 'University as an example of the possibilities of such a system. A student group at Michigan State wrote last year to the board of the Fraternity Market in Association, predecessor of IFCPA, asking for information on the set-up of the joint-buy -1 1 ing program, Burns said. There was then no joint-buy- Ing program of any kind among, 'fraternities in operation at Michi igan State. I But within one year, the new 'Michigan State program has pro gressed to where construction of a warehouse and fabricating plant 'now is underway. Only about one-half of the frat ernities at the University now be long to IFCPA. Burns said that with coopera tion IFCPA is planning on a long range scale such services as: laun dry and linen-cleaning; rug clean ing and upholstery of furniture; handling of a soft-drink conces sion; purchasing of hardware, re frigerators, and freezing equip ment; purchasing of electrical equipment; television and radio repair. and plumbing service. These services and those al ready in operation will soon be handled by a more extensive administrative setup than now exists. Burns said. He said the IFCPA Board of Trustees has just established a junior board, c3mposed of sophomores and juniors, to work on the pro gram The junior board will serve on newly- established committees, such as buying investigation, pub lic relations and publicity, finan cial, management, and service, he explained. The public relations and pub licity committee, Burns added, will publish a bi-monthly news letter for fraternities. The news letter will feature information on food prices, offers and sales by companies, the trend of the food market, recipes and ideas for cooks and hints on possible meth ods of saving on house expenses.
