PAGE SIX Thinclads Open 'Suicide' Season In Two Weeks A "suicide" schedule which includes such powerful track factories as Villanova, Quantico Marines, Ohio State, Michi gan State, Pittsburgh, and Manhattan faces Penn State's "youthful" trackmen when they embark on the 1957 outdoor season two weeks from today. Coach Chick Werner, entering his 24th year at the Lion helm, is not definitely set on a. starting unit for his April 20 tri-! angular engagement at Annapolis against Navy and Villanova. But it is almost certain that seniors will' only dot his lineup. This means that Werner will rely heavily on the "youth" of the team—seven )uniors and five tophomores—to carry the thin dads through their tough seven meet journey. However. Werner has made it perfectly clear that anyone who thinks they have the ability to make the track team should try out at once. "W feel that out of a student body of 32,000," Werner said. •'there are many men who could become outstanding athletes but hesitate because they think every one on the track team is a star or a champion. "High school experience is an asset," Werner went on, "but it isn't necessary. Many of our best] men, such as Horace Ashenfelter, never had high school experi-, ence." Five men are missing this year from the 1956 Track squad 'Bob Thompson, and Chesterfield which lost only to the Marines Colton will provide Werner with in four meets. The biggest loss his 1957 nucleus. was that of captain Art Pollard 1 Lion Track Scheeule who set a 220-yard record last April 20 Nary-Villanoya at Annapolis year with 20.4 seconds.
