FRIDAY. JANUARY 11 UCA, Hillel Will Offer Nine Religious Courses Hillel Foundation and the University Christian Associa tion will offer a variety of courses for the spring semester. UCA is offering six courses in religion. These courses are designed to supplement the regular academic program of a student. They offer'the student an opportunity to gain a systematic and well-rounded grasp of both the content of Christian faith and its relevance to modern life and thought. ■ These classes are open to all students on a non-credit basis. They will meet for one hour a week for ten weeks in the Helen Eakin Eisenhower Memorial Chapel beginning the week of Feb. 11. The courses being offered are: Introduction to the New Testa ment, a study of the four “gos pels”; the life and teachings of .Jesus; the development of the early church and how. the New Testament speaks to us today. This class is taught at 4:10 Mon day afternoon byi the Rev. Hal Leiper, associate dlirector of UCA. Old Testament Study Introduction to j the Old Testa ment, a study of the writings of the prophets, their interpretation of history; the significance of the Old Testament for Christianity. The Rev. Richard W. Nutt, Meth odist chaplain, will. teach the course at 4:10 Tuesday afternoon. The History of the Christian Church, a study of the age of the Reformation and its impact on the life and thought 'of the church; major trends in the life of the church today. This course will be taught by Dr. Robert W. Green, assistant professor of history, at 4:10 Thursday afternoons. Basic Christian Ethics, a study of Christian ethics as a practical way of making decisions related -to sex and other interpersonal re lations, profession and business, 'politics and social policy. The Rev. Preston N. Williams, assis tant to" the University chaplain, will teach the course at 4:10 Mon day afternoon. The Meaning • of Worship, a study of the development of wor ship from its early beginnings in Judaism through the various Christian traditions. The course will include an analysis of the elements in worship, ther purpose and meaning. Brown Higginbo tham, staff associate, Office of the University Chaplain, will teach the course at 7 p.m. Tuesday. - Christianity Interpretation A Contemporary Interpretation of Christianity, a study of the meaning of the Christian faith in relation to the experience, ideas and language of modern man. The course will be taught by the Rev. Robert B. Starbuck, Evangelical and Reformed chaplain.and asso ciate director, -U.C.A. at 4:10 Thursday afternoon. The courses are continuations of the courses offered in the fall semester, but are not dependent upon them, so registration by new students is encouraged. Students may register for these courses at the U.C.A. offices in the chapel. The Hillel Foundation will of fer three courses in Jewish studies. They are: Hebrew 10: Development of Jewish Civilization, a survey of Jewish histopr which is offered for two credits at 1:00 on Tues day and Thursday in 235 Sparks. Rabbi Benjamin Kahn will teach the course.
