PAGE EIGHT Behind the FMA Questio Twenty Fraternities List Reasons for Opposition By 808 FRANKLIN T/I;rd of a Series Seven reasons—including better savings elsewhere and opposition by the cook—have been listed as reasons for not joining the Fraternity Marketing Association by 20 houses. The reasons were listed in a report of an Interfraternity Council committee studying the association. The IFC will vote Monday on a resolution uhich would require automatic membership in FMA on the part of all IFC members and which calls for a review of the FMA constitution and organization. The other reasons for fraternity opposition listed by the report were: 1. "Better dea;s' through alum ni who are merchants. 2. Understood that the quality of goods distributed through FMA was lower. .3. Trouble raising the required deposit. 4. Brothers "teary" of the FMA program. 5. "Complete indifference" to ward FMA. The report, which was generally favorable toward continuance of -the association, was prepared by a committee under the direction of IFC vice president Howard F. Thompson. Of the 20 fraternities which are not now membefs of FMA, it in dicated that 16 would be willing to join for at least a semester if all other fraternities did, but that four would not join under and circumstances: One fraternity officer has said his house has received consistent ly better discounts over the past several years than have houses in the FMA program. He said that the organization of the association has had no influence on the dis count rate given his fraternity.
