Oil Weil Company
Gives Two Awards
To Petroleum Prof
Dr. C. Drew Stahl, assistant pro
fessor of petroleum and natural
gas engineering, has been award
ed a plaque and $4OO by the
American Association of Oil Well
Drilling Contractors.
The award is made each year
to a college or university profes
sor who has been instrumental in
interesting engineering students
in the techniques of drilling for
oil. This is the first time the award
has been made to a Penn State
faculty member.
Presentation of the award was
made Tuesday night at a joint
meeting of Pi Epsilon Tau, petrol
cum engineering honorary, and
the Petroleum Engineering So
ciety, after a lecture by H. J.
Magner, of the Delta Drilling Co.
Dr. Stahl has served on the
Penn State faculty since 1947.

crages inside a booth be expand-;
ed to include the use or possession!
of alcoholic beverage containers.l
Penalty Would Be Closure
The recommended penalty for
violation of this law would be
immediate closure of the violating
booth.
During this year's carnival,
three booths were found with
empty beer bottles, and one booth
with beer. If the addition is made
to the carnival rules, it will clear
up indecision as to whether a
group has been using alcoholic,
beverages or just using containers
by prohibiting both.
Donkey Basketball Backed
Two final general recommenda
tions will be made asking the con
tinuance of the Donkey Basket
ball Game, which was tried this
year for the first time, and es
tablishment of the Spring Week
committee early in October to
facilitate the large amount of
correspondence which must be
carried on earls• to secure certain
services.
The report also earmarks $4400
to $4500 for operating expenses in
next year's Spring 'Week, and an
estimated $l3OO gift to the Penn
State Student Scholarship Fund.
Last year, Spring Week donated
- $l6OO to the fund.
Cabinet Progress Report
The final report to Cabinet will
enumerate the progress made dur
ing the year by Cabinet. The re
port will be used as a reference
for future Student Encampments,
Bahrenburg said. This will elimi
nate wasting time on issues which
have already been investigated,
he added.
Appointments for members of
Tribunal. Freshman Customs
Board, Cabinet Secretariat, and
Student Handbook will also be
placed before Cabinet for ap
proval.

IT MAY INCLUDE FACTORS YOU HAVE NOT CONSIDERED.
WILL MY STARTING SALARY BE
0 Equal to industry standards?
0 Better than industry standarcs?
Gilfillan starting salaries are higher than

He is literally worth more from the start.
HOW RAPIDLY WILL I ADVANCE?
E At predetermined intervals, according
to a rigid seniority system?
0 As rapidly as my abilities warrant?
At GiMilan. there is no "hierarchy" or sen
iority system. Individuals advance as rapidly
as abilities develop. Salaries are reviewed
at least twice a year.
WHAT WILL MY "STANDING" BE 7
aWill I have to work at a board, punch
a time clock, or be docked for time off?
0 Will !have professional standing?
At Gilfillan. you do not punch a time clock.
You work at a desk, in a professional atmos

science when you need personal time off.
CAN I "CARRY THROUGH"
ON MY OWN IDEAS?
DUp to a point, then senior engineers
take over?
0 All the way through to production?

"given his head" and complete team
project cooperation. An assigned technician
reports directly to the engineer, for con
struction and wiring of circuits. The engi
neer carries full design responsibility
