Y 9. 1956 The World at a Glance Algerian Students Bombard Ministers ALGIERS, Algeria, May 8 (4))—Ten thousand students and war veterans protesting France's failure to put down the 113-month-old Algerian rebellion bombarded French ministers with tomatoes and stones at a V-E Day ceremony today. Targets of the rioters were Robert Lacoste, French resident minister in Algeria; Michael Campeix, secretary of state for Algeria; Marcel Jacques Chevallier, mayor of Algiers. Ike Asks Patient Disarmament Effort WASHINGTON, May 8 JP —President Dwight D. Eisenhower told his disarmament chief today not to give up the search for some way in which the East and West can cut down their weapons. "The President directed that we continue to patiently and per sistently seek a sound agreement on this matter with the Soviet Union and the other nations," Harold E. Stassen reported after a White House visit. Stassen called on the President to give him a personal account of the London disarmament conference, a seven-week session which broke up- last Friday in disagreement over Eisenhower's "open skies" inspection plan. Employment Hits New Record for April WASHINGTON, May 8 (JP)—Nearly 64 million Americans held jobs last month—an April record—while unemployment dropped by 270,000. These figures were reported today by the Labor and Com merce Departments.
