FRIDAY. MAY 4. 1956 McDonald Chosen 1956 Dairy Queen Martha McDonald was selected Dairy Queen last night by the Dairy Science Club members. Miss McDonald is a senior in home economics extension from Shippensburg and was sponsored by Phi Mu. After hearing of her victgry she commented, "It's just wonderful and am very proud to be Queen." The two other finalists in the Dairy Queen Contest were Patsy Ann Paxton, sophomore in art ed ucation - fr o m Mechanicsburg, sponsored by Zeta- Tau Alpha; and, Barbara Albeck, sophomore in applied arts from Duncannon, sponsored by Sigma Sigma Sigma. Karen Bixler, sophomore in home economics from Wrightstown, sponsored by Gamma Phi Beta, was also chosen as a finalist in the annual contest but if chosen queen would not have been able to appear at the Dairy Exposition on May 12 since she is a member of May Court. The Dairy Science Club is holding its 31st annual exposi tion and the selected queen will preside over the show which is to be held at the Livestock Pa villion from noon to 5 p.m. May 12. She will be officially crowned "Penn State Dairy Queen, 1956" at this time. This is the second time Miss McDonald has been' a queen. She previously was Pennsylvania's ap ple queen. Before the judges for the con test voted for their choice, the three finalists were interviewed by Gil Porter. professor of Dairy Science. Porter asked Miss Mc- Donald- what could be gained from being a "queen." She re plied that when she was apple queen - she had the honor of meeting many personalities , which included the Secretary of Agriculture. When asked about her future, Miss McDonald said, "I plan to _work in the farm areas and see just what makes rural people tick." cillon Will Speak At Hillel Services Dr. Adam Gillon of Israel will be the guest speaker at the. W. Houts and Sons store on Buckhout avenue. Orlanda Houts purchased the lions in 1943 after they were des tined to be melted down as scrap. The bengals stood at the entrance to his store until a disasterous fire last year destroyed the store and scorched the statues. The lions were refinished and placed on exhibition again ear lier this week. Social Research Center To Hear Fortune Editor William Hollingsworth Whyte Jr., will be guest lecturer for the annual spring meeting of the Con stituent Body of the Social Sci ence Research Center at 4:10 -p.m. Thursday in the Hetzel Union assembly hall. Whyte, author and assistant managing editor of Fortune maga zine, will speak on "The Organ ization Man." Frosh Coeds To Pick Rooms For Next Year Second semester women will register for rooms for next year at 1 p.m. tomorrow in Thompson Hall recreation room. Applications will be taken in alphabetical order. If two women wish to room together, they will be taken on the letter of whom ever has the initial nearest A. Women who requested single rooms on their preliminary hous ing blanks have had singles re served for them. However, these women should check their room assignments at the same time. Women who cannot register to morrow should go to the dean of women's office starting Monday. The reason registration_ is sched uled for tomorrow is because the dean of women's office has met opposition in the past when they tried to have registration during the week, according to Edith H. Anderson, of the dean of women's office. She also said that any other weekend in the future would be too busy for women students. Correction The correct time for the horse show given by the Penn State Rid ing Club will be 9 a.m. and 1 p.m., tomorrow and Sunday. WEST PENN POWER 'Players' to Use Renovated Stage Schwab Auditorium's new stage, a modern affair built along the lines of the Elizabethan stage at Stratford, Ontario, will receive its first public workout in the Players' production, "An Inspec tor Calls," to be held May 10. The new stage, according to Kelly Yeaton, associate professor of dramatics, represents a "direct attack on the sight and sound problems of Schwab Auditorium which have been hindering Play lers designers and technicians I ever since it was first used for plays."
